Engage, engage, engage

To truly grow on LinkedIn, you need to do more than post every few days or like a few status updates now and then. You need to dig in and treat LinkedIn like an actual business event where you would comment on someone's presentation or ask questions of colleagues while networking.

Yet, even we are guilty of doing "drive-by" engagements — quickly scrolling and leaving one-word comments and sporadic likes. While that works to an extent, you need a dedicated practice to grow.

We always suggest people allot 20 minutes for 3-4 days a week to engage. Of course, it's easier said than done, so do what you can. Now, I'm sure you're wondering what the heck you should be doing if you're not supposed to be randomly liking or "Congrats!" commenting.

So, here are 10 things you can try to boost your LinkedIn engagement:

1. Follow a company you're interested in and comment on their most recent post.

2. Follow an influencer or someone well-known in your field and comment on their most recent post.

3. Follow a local person in your field and comment on their most recent post.

4. Send a connection request to someone completely new and explain why you want to connect in the outreach note.

5. Leave a two-sentence comment on the status of a company you would love to work with.

6. Leave a two-sentence comment on an influencer's status and share their post with additional comments.

7. Write an in-depth, thought-provoking comment on someone's status.

8. Like someone else's comment on a post you commented on.

9. Respond to someone else's comment (instead of responding to the post itself).

10. Comment on someone's post, telling them you liked their feedback and want to connect with them offline.
