Are you digging into competitor metrics?

Did you know that LinkedIn encourages you to spy on your competition?

The other day, we posted about competitive research and how it's completely acceptable, even though people get weirded out by it sometimes.

The truth is, how do you know where you stand if you’re not keeping up with your competitors? Are you afraid of spying on your competitors, making typos, or giving hugs?

In the post, we gave a tip about an often-underutilized LinkedIn feature: Competitor Metrics.

If you have a business page, you can keep a close eye on your competitors through the Analytics tab. See our snapshot below.

When you access that Analytics tab, you can filter for a certain timeframe, and you'll see three sections of competitor metrics. We've outlined them below why this information is helpful to rock your LinkedIn game:

  • Follower Metrics: This section is helpful to find out where you rank in terms of follower count. While a large follower count isn't the end-all-and-be-all, it is helpful to know where you stand. This section also shows you how many followers you got in a certain period compared to your competitors.

  • Organic Engagement: The organic engagement section measures how well your non-paid posts are doing in comparison to your competitors' non-paid posts. You can see total organic engagements and a breakdown of comments, shares, and reactions. It also shows the number of posts from that time period, which could provide insight into why you rank where you do (more posts = more engagement).

  • Trending Competitor Posts: In this section, you can see which of your competitor posts are doing well. This is a great way to get ideas and see what content is popular on LinkedIn. Then, you can take that information to create your own unique, original, not-copied posts.
